Impact (1949)
American film noir drama film.
A unfaithful wife plots with her lover to kill her husband, but the lover is accidentally killed instead. The husband stays in hiding, and lets his wife be charged with conspiracy.
Filmed entirely in California, the film included scenes filmed in Sausalito, and at San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf and other locations around the city.
The Williams’ apartment building is the Brocklebank, in San Francisco, most famous for its appearance in the film Vertigo (1958).
Even though the movie is set in Larkspur, ID, it was actually shot in Larkspur, CA. Several areas in and around Larkspur can be seen, including the Probert family’s home and gas station at 234 and 238 Magnolia Avenue.
This was Anna May Wong’s first screen appearance since Lady from Chungking (1942). She would not appear in another film until her final one, Portrait in Black (1960).
Character actor Tom Greenway made his first appearance on screen as an unnamed moving van driver. Gossip reporter Sheilah Graham appears as herself, reading a news item about the case on the radio.
Interesting Automotive Trivia:
The car driven by Walter Williams in the film is a 1948 Packard Victoria 8, the most luxurious and expensive convertible of its day, and America’s leading luxury make for several decades. Only 3,486 were made with an MSRP of $3,250 ($35,000 in 2019). In excellent condition in 2019, this car could be worth over $100,000.
The car Marsha is working on when Walter first encounters her is a 1949 Kaiser Deluxe.
