D.O.A. (1949)
American Film Noir Mystery Drama.
Frank Bigelow, a fatally poisoned man tries to find out who has poisoned him and why.
The scene in which Bigelow runs in panic through the streets after learning he has been poisoned was what is considered a ‘stolen shot’ where the pedestrians along the sidewalk had no idea a movie was being made and no warning that Edmond O’Brien would be plowing through them.
Film debut of Beverly Garland (billed as “Beverly Campbell”).
Film debut of Frank Gerstle, who appeared in the part of Dr. MacDonald.
In 2004, D.O.A. was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
The film has been remade as Color Me Dead (1969), D.O.A. (1988), Crank (2006), Dead On Arrival (2017), and Kate (2021).
