The Animal Kingdom (1932)
American pre-Code comedy romance drama.
Based on a play by Philip Barry, this sophisticated comedy is about a man trying to justify his love for both his wife and his mistress.
The film flopped with Depression-era audiences. It ended up $110,000 in the red.
According to files in the MPAA/Collection at the AMPAS Library, RKO considered re-issuing this film in 1935 and 1937, but was informed by the PCA that it would not approve the film for censorship reasons.
George Cukor directed additional scenes after original director Edward H. Griffith left the picture due to illness.
This was the first film to be screened commercially in RKO’s Roxy Theatre.
