Angel On My Shoulder (1946)
American fantasy comedy romance drama.
The Devil arranges for a deceased gangster to return to Earth as a well-respected judge to make up for his previous life.
The film’s original title was “Me and Satan” but producer Charles R. Rogers decided to change it to Angel on My Shoulder (1946) on the conclusion that no one would want to go to see a film about the Devil.
Claude Rains also played a similar role in Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941). In that movie, he played “Mr. Jordan,” who helped the central character, “Joe Pendleton,” find a new body after he died.
Director Archie Mayo clashed repeatedly with star Paul Muni during production. Muni didn’t make another film for eight years.
Angel on My Shoulder was the final film of director Archie Mayo.
