Hell’s House (1932)
American Pre-Code drama.
Jimmy idolizes bootlegger Matt, and when he refuses to implicate his friend, he is sent to reform school. While in reform school he befriends Shorty, a boy with a heart condition, and escapes to let the world know about the brutal conditions.
Bette Davis’s first starring role.
Hell’s House was shot in thirteen days, and was originally entitled Juvenile Court.
In the very beginning of the movie, Jimmy’s mother dies in a car accident. In a very eerily twist, Junior Durkin, who played Jimmy, would die in a car accident at age 19, 4 years after the movie was released.
