The King of Kings (1927)
Epic American Family Drama.
Jesus Christ faces religious and political oppression during his ministry and in the days before his death and resurrection.
The King of Kings was the first film shown at Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.
In 2008, AFI nominated this film for its Top 10 Epic Films list. It is widely considered to be among the most popular Hollywood biblical epic films depicting the life of Christ.
A giant gate built for this film was later used in the 1933 film King Kong, and was among the sets torched for the “burning of Atlanta” in Gone with the Wind (1939).
Other sets and costumes were re-used for the 1965 Elvis Presley film, Harum Scarum.
Interesting Tidbit
Sally Rand was an extra in the film, years before becoming notorious for her “fan dance” at the 1933 World’s Fair.
